“Having studied with Maria for five years, I can confidently say that it was nothing but outmost pleasure. Maria is a kind and insightful teacher, a talented musician, and a wonderful person all around. Under Maria’s tutelage, I noticed great improvement in my technique and musicality. I felt encouraged to not only step out of my comfort zone and to challenge myself with harder pieces, but equally to improve my technique. Maria made sure that going to weekly violin lessons was a delight by not only guiding me to improve my skills, but equally to get enjoyment from playing music. Studying with Maria was a wonderful experience, and I highly recommend her.”

“I have had the pleasure of being an adult violin student with Maria for the last 7 years. Being a parent of two young kids with a busy career, my violin journey would not have been possible without her guidance, encouragement, understanding and flexibility. Having a biweekly lesson is perfect for my schedule as it gives me a regular objective, yet with the flexibility to navigate around my busy family and work schedule without becoming overwhelming. During each lesson, I find Maria provides very valuable, precise, supportive feedback in a way that's easy to comprehend. I appreciate that she gives me a realistic number of things to focus on for the next lesson as well as her patience when having to reinforce challenging techniques/concepts. When the COVID pandemic hit, Maria did not miss a beat in moving to Zoom based lessons and I am amazed how she picks up on everything over video just as well as if in person. Overall, I'm thrilled with the progress I have made under her tutelage. During her recitals, I have had the opportunity to observe and appreciate her work with children of all ages and abilities. It is obvious to me how effective her patient, caring, supportive approach is with them. I am always impressed by the budding abilities of some of her younger students, but am especially awed and inspired by the beautiful performances of her graduating students. For me, Maria created some special recital moments by suggesting and encouraging my son who's learning piano to accompany me. I would highly recommend Maria as a teacher for aspiring violinists of any age or ability.”

“I first started taking violin lessons with Maria when I was only 8 years old. I remember being extremely nervous for my first lesson not only because I was a beginner, but also because I had just moved to Canada 2 months prior. However, there was no need to worry! Maria immediately made me feel welcomed and comfortable. She actively nurtured an environment in her studio which stimulated learning and creativity. Now, as a young adult, and following 10 years of violin lessons with Maria, I can say with absolute certainty that those lessons fostered a love for music and a strong sense of self-discipline that I will carry with me throughout my university, career and throughout my lifetime. Not only did Maria help me pass my violin Royal Conservatory exams, but she also encouraged an appreciation and love for music in general. For example, because she knew I was an auditory learner, Maria would play a selection of pieces for me, so I could pick myself the one I preferred to study and perfect. In taking this approach, she was able to ensure that I enjoyed my time studying violin, so that I would not view practicing as an arduous task, but as a freeing activity. Personally, one of my favourite parts about violin lessons with Maria was the community that she created among her violin students. For example, (in pre-COVID times) twice a year, Maria would host a recital in which all her students would perform a piece of their choosing. It was much more than a concert though, it was also a potluck and a social gathering! Not only were musical talents celebrated, but lasting friendships were fostered."

“Maria Nenoiu is an exemplary violin teacher. For 12 years Maria has and continues to teach our daughter violin. She has a seamless way in which she teaches all aspects of the instrument and really helps our daughter to explore and grow with her violin. Maria takes time to understand her students and teaches them in a way that helps them to connect to their violin.”
